Rising from the ashes, in silk

By BBT · 05.11.2026 · 6 min read

A young Hanoi silk house has built its entire identity around one idea: that a turning point in life can be the start of something finer. Its newest chapter, a limited-edition trilogy of phoenix scarves cut in a diamond silhouette, is the clearest statement of that belief yet, and two Burgundy pieces, Phénix Blanc and Flamme Éternelle, sit at its heart.

MALANÉ does not open with a product. It opens with a story. The brand describes its own origin as a personal journey of transformation, one in which a difficult bend in the road became the beginning of a more confident self rather than an ending. Everything it makes is meant to carry that idea: fine silk, an artist’s eye and master craftsmanship brought together to express inner resilience, timeless elegance and, in the brand’s own framing, the freedom to become entirely oneself.

Based at Vinhomes Ocean Park in Gia Lâm on the eastern edge of Hanoi, the label works almost exclusively in silk scarves for now: square carrés, slender twillies to tie at the wrist or on a handbag, and larger statement pieces. The house is clear that silk is the starting point rather than the destination. What it wants to build is a world in which art enters daily life naturally, present in the things a person chooses to carry each day without distance or display.

Silk as a canvas that moves

The house explains its choice of material in unusually precise terms. Silk, it argues, changes. A pattern looks entirely different laid flat than it does inside a fold; a colour deepens in shadow and lightens again when it meets the sun. That instability is the point. Each design is developed from a single idea, sometimes an emotion, sometimes a memory, and translated into motifs drawn from the mysticism of Middle Eastern art, the order of Neoclassical architecture and the old painterly play of light against darkness.

Two signature cloths carry most of the range. Wood-Grain Silk is a jacquard weave whose faint natural grain gives a soft, matte lustre and a durable hand. Imperial Fine Silk, known in Vietnamese as lụa nhuyễn hoàng kim, is smoother and lighter, with a shimmer the brand likens to a dusting of gold. Prints are applied by hand on both faces of the fabric, and silhouettes lean towards clean geometry. Limited pieces leave the atelier with a Certificate of Authenticity.

A beautiful design does not have to capture every gaze at once. Sometimes it only needs to make you look a little longer.

A wardrobe written in chapters

Rather than seasons, MALANÉ releases its work as chapters of an inner journey that moves from awakening to healing, then to rebirth, growth and serenity. Each collection is built around three core pieces and anchored by a single emotional state.

Eclipse opens the story. Inspired by the solar eclipse, it treats darkness as a sacred pause, with golden butterflies crossing a charcoal-blue ground in pieces such as Obsidian Veil. L’Ohara en Rose is the chapter of healing, built on the French Ohara rose in ash-rose and blush tones that frame vulnerability as a form of grace. Heaven Garden turns to growth through the Greek Muses and Neoclassical harmony, from the pastel calm of Serenity Chorus to the gold and emerald of Apollo’s Ascent.

COLLECTION IN FOCUS

L’Éveil du Phénix: the Diamond Phoenix

The fourth chapter, L’Éveil du Phénix, or the awakening of the phoenix, is MALANÉ’s most personal collection and its most ambitious. By the brand’s own account, it is a declaration about the courage to step out of the ashes wearing a new face.

The collection takes its shape as literally as its name. Every piece is cut in a Losange, the French word for a lozenge or diamond, so that the scarf reads as a gem before it is unfolded. Across its three editions the story travels from quiet embers to a moment of sovereign radiance, and the brand ties each stage to a quality it wants the wearer to recognise in herself: inner strength, dignity, freedom and vitality.

All three are produced in deliberately small runs in a single 60 by 100 centimetre format that drapes like a stole when worn open and knots neatly at the throat, and they are the most valuable pieces in the house. The prologue, Aura Cinérea, sets the mood in tawny tones of cedar, sunbaked earth and sleeping mineral ash. The heart of the story, however, belongs to two Burgundy scarves that MALANÉ places at the very top of its home page: Phénix Blanc and Flamme Éternelle. Seen together, they read as two moments of the same bird.

Phénix Blanc: the White Phoenix

A deep, meditative Burgundy ground is held in place by a Neoclassical border drawn with the precision of architecture. At its centre rests a White Phoenix, the Bạch Phượng of Vietnamese lore, its feathers picked out in ivory and chalk white. The frame is the message: composure and purity kept intact within discipline, the kind of grace that survives a hard season without raising its voice.

Flamme Éternelle: the Fire Phoenix

Here the border disappears. On a Burgundy field swept clean of every margin, a Fire Phoenix surges outward with fluid, restless feathers in molten copper, saffron and radiant crimson that fade towards the edge of the cloth as if into infinity. Where Phénix Blanc holds its ground, Flamme Éternelle breaks free. It is the crowning piece of the collection and the most precious scarf in the house.

From palace bird to open range

In Vietnamese tradition the phoenix belongs to courts and ceremonial dress, a symbol of virtue and noble bearing. MALANÉ’s campaign takes it somewhere unexpected. Shot around a weathered timber barn, the lookbook pairs the scarves with distressed denim, cowboy hats, leather vests and riding boots, and styles them on both a woman and a man.

Phénix Blanc is knotted bandana style at the neck, slung from a belt like a sash, or held up to the wind like a banner. Flamme Éternelle falls loosely over a bare shoulder. The effect strips the motif of any museum stiffness and argues that a symbol of rebirth works best when it is lived in.

On the national stage

The label’s profile rose sharply in October, when it joined Miss Vietnam 2026 as a companion and sponsor brand. Its founder walked the red carpet at the pageant’s national final, and the house set up a display of its collections at the event. MALANÉ framed the partnership around a shared belief that lasting beauty is measured by knowledge, independent thinking and composure at life’s turning points, rather than appearance alone.

Gift sets presented through the partnership came with the brand’s Certificate of Authenticity, the same document that accompanies each limited piece, underlining its claim that every scarf is a handcrafted object rather than an accessory.

For a house only a few collections old, the phoenix is a fitting emblem. MALANÉ began with silk, but its real subject has always been what happens to a person after the fire. Phénix Blanc and Flamme Éternelle make that story visible, and wearable, in two pieces of cloth.
